"I'm setting the way-back machine..."

--Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome

Part the First:

We started as a Wiccan-ish, Eclectic Pagan training circle...

In the fall of '84 Paul, Cinnabar and I (Kathryn) moved back to Boston. We had been living in Northampton, where I was working with a small, women-only Dianic circle (which after a death-rebirth eventually mutated into flaming crones coven). Paul had been getting involved in the Craft as well, and had briefly been involved with a doomed-to-explode, highly eclectic mixed group (The Coven That Dare Not Speak Its Name (because it never had one.)).

I was very involved in the women-only work I was doing, and did not feel up to teaching Paul. Not that he needed teaching per se, since he'd been involved in the Occult longer than I had. But he wanted a group to work with, and the particular style of Wiccan-ish Paganism was still new to him. We checked out a handful of Boston area covens that accepted men, but didn't find anyone Paul, or I, clicked with.

I never did form a new women's coven in Boston, though I tried. Circumstances, friendships, and all our combined karma called me back to a new incarnation of my Noho women's coven. I eventually became a commuter-Witch, living most of the time in Boston, but going back out to Western Mass regularly to work with the crones and the nature spirits we'd contacted so strongly out there.

By the Spring of '85, Paul and I had started working together magically. Living in the same household, I had started including him in workings that concerned our small tribe. (Although "demented wolf pack" may be a more accurate description: our bonds are very strong, but we're still a bit small to be considered a real Tribe.) By that time another friend of ours, also new to NeoPaganism, had begun working with us as well, so we made it official: Moonstone the training circle was born.
